Tottenham Hotspur fans witnessed a genuinely amazing moment on Tuesday evening as their side beat Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0.
With the game level at 0-0, manager Mauricio Pochettino introduced Vincent Janssen as a substitute for Brazilian forward Lucas Moura.
Before Tuesday’s game, Janssen’s last appearance for Spurs came in August 2017, playing a single minute in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.
Per WhoScored, he enjoyed a fine cameo, winning one aerial duel and also making one tackle as Spurs managed to take all three points.
Christian Eriksen scored a superb 88th-minute winner, firing past Mat Ryan from range as Spurs boosted their own top-four hopes.
Janssen’s introduction, though, left many fans gobsmacked.
Indeed, his Spurs career has endured far more troughs than peaks and has scored just six goals in 40 appearances for the club.
However, Tottenham supporters are hopeful that he may now see a resurrection under Pochettino, akin to that of Moussa Sissoko, who has gone from flop to hero in 2018-19.
