One of the biggest Crystal Palace-related transfer rumours to emerge this week was that reported by The Sutton and Croydon Guardian.
One of their reports suggested that Roy Hodgson is keen on the double signing of Brentford attacking duo Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins.
The former is a striker who’s been scoring for fun in the Sky Bet Championship in 2018/2019 and the latter is a winger most used mostly on the left of a front three or in the number ten role just behind the centre-forward.
Regardless of whether Wilfried Zaha leaves the club this summer, the Eagles are in desperate need of a revamp in attack that boils down to the way they play, with a useless target man and wingers they rely on way too much. The signings of Maupay and Watkins could be a huge aspect of that.
Today, in light of this, we ask three Football FanCast writers if they think Palace would be right to swoop for the twosome…
Billy Meyers
“I think this double transfer swoop would definitely hook the Palace fans’ attention. For some time now, the Eagles have invested their millions in players who have almost always plied their trade in top-flight football, which is all well and good but some haven’t some as much hunger as two up and coming Championship stars would. These two would give their all for Palace and would redefine the attack.”
Charles Jones
“The Brentford duo are two of the most exciting players in the Championship and they would certainly be great additions to any bottom half Premier League side. Watkins is an excellent winger and Maupay certainly knows where the net is. A front three of Zaha, Maupay and Watkins would scare any defence.”

Matt Dawson
“Maupay would be a superb signing and is the striker Palace have been crying out for. The likes of Ayew, Benteke and Wickham simply aren’t good enough so adding a forward of quality of the Frenchman can only be a good thing. He was exceptional in the Championship last term and if they sign Watkins as well, it would be excellent business.”
